Evan // 21 Aug 2011Announcing DOG YEAR + Single premiere on NPR!

We’re thrilled to announce the completion of our debut album, DOG YEAR.

Dog Year

Recorded with the help of our friends at Spaceman Sound, mixed by our own Evan Younger, mastered by Drew Lavyne, and with artwork by John O’Connor, this album is the culmination of our six years as a band and blows everything we’ve previously recorded out of the water.

The album will be out this fall, but you’ll have your first taste this Thursday with the release of the first two singles, a revamped “Eating Me Alive” and a brand new song called “Tensity.”

Evan // 26 May 2011We’re still alive!

It's alive! It’s been a ridiculous 2011 so far. Our album has been beset by many obstacles (the kind we can’t talk about for legal reasons), but we’re finally (oh god, finally) wrapping it up and emerging from hiding.

But before we inundate you with album updates, let’s talk about shows!

If you’re in the NYC area, we have one next Friday, June 3rd at Mercury Lounge (more details and tickets here) and more coming up at Ars Nova, Knitting Factory, and Williamsburg Walks.

If you’re nooooot in the NYC area… we realize we’ve been a little (very) NYC-centric this past year (these past years), and we want to change that. This summer we’re going to be playing out of town as much as possible (perhaps even a full-blown tour if we can swing it) and we want to know where you want to hear us. If you want us to come to your area, or if you could help us put together a show near you, please let us know!

Evan // 15 Dec 2010One last time: thank you thank you thank you

Before we finally stop beating everyone over the head with Kickstarter updates, we wanted to give a huge thanks to all our 318 (318!) backers by name.

These are our best friends forever:

Evan // 9 Dec 2010Campaign finished, funding successful, MOMS dumbfounded. (Spaceman Sound still awesome.)

Wow. There are only so many ways we can continue to say thank you, so we’ll end with the simplest: THANK YOU.

We wanted to take this opportunity to give a huge belated shout-out to Alex Mead-Fox and Tom Tierney of Brooklyn’s Spaceman Sound, who we’ve been recording the album with since April, and who have truly made our dreams possible with their generosity, patience, and amazing studio know-how.

If you’re a musician in the New York area looking to make a record, we can’t recommend these guys highly enough. The stuff they’ve recorded, mixed, and mastered has run the gamut from the raw acoustic folk of PAPS and Isaac Gillespie to the face-melting indie metal of Tidal Arms (with MOMS lying somewhere along that spectrum) – and it all sounds top-notch. Even if you’re not in the market for a recording studio, their work is worth a listen.

As for our album, the sounds we’ve captured in these guys’ Bushwick loft rival the work of huge studios we’d never be able to afford – and the the new space in Greenpoint they just moved to is SICK NASTY. To boot, Tom and Alex are dear friends. They’ve been incredibly patient with our pathological perfectionism and wonderful to work with throughout the long recording process.

We can’t wait to share the results of Spaceman’s and our hard work. We know you’ll like what you hear.

Thanks again for all of your support! Stay tuned for more updates…

Evan // 6 Dec 2010GOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!

Dear friends,

WE HIT OUR GOAL ON KICKSTARTER! So so so so so many thanks to everyone who’s pledged! (We’ll thank you all by name once the campaign ends.)

There are still a couple days left to be part of the magic! Believe it or not, $15K is barely enough to cover the basic costs of finishing the album. Anything beyond that will help us make the album BETTER and more polished, reach a BIGGER audience, and get the album out there FASTER. So please keep spreading the word, and make a pledge if you haven’t already. It’s good karma, and the rewards are oh so sweet.

Stay tuned for a thank you surprise for all our supporters!

THANKS AGAIN!

-Evan, Josh, Geoff, Kieran, and Tyler

Evan // 9 Nov 2010Our album is FINISHED – but we need your help!

Oh man, you guys.

We’ve finished recording our debut full length album! It’s 11 songs of pure MOMS bliss. We’re really, really proud of how it’s sounding, and we can’t wait to get it out there for you to hear.

But to do that, we need your help.

So far we’ve been funding the entire process ourselves without the help of a label. But we’ve spent every dollar to our name, and we still have to MIX and MASTER the album for digital and vinyl; PRESS, PACKAGE, and DISTRIBUTE the album to get it into your hands; and then PROMOTE it to make sure it’s heard by more than just our parents.

So we’ve started a Kickstarter campaign to fund the album release. If you’re not familiar with Kickstarter, it’s a new platform where artists can fund creative projects with contributions from friends and fans.

To show our gratitude, we’re offering rewards for every contribution, even as little as $1. Depending on your donation, you can get…

Please take a minute to watch the video above, which we made with the generous help of our talented friends Giles Sherwood, Lindsey Timko, and James Demetri. It’ll explain everything you need to know, and it’s also your first chance to hear selections from the new album!

Because Kickstarter is an “all or nothing” system, if we don’t raise $15,000 by our deadline December 9th, we lose everything that’s been pledged. So if you’re as excited for this album as we are, please give whatever you can and help us spread the word!

Thank you!!!!!

-Evan, Josh, Geoff, Kieran, and Tyler

Evan // 12 Oct 2010Rejected album titles

Back of the napkin

We’re closing in on a finished album. Recording is DONE, mixing is under way. But still the perfect title remains elusive. (Actually, no. The perfect title is Dingonaut. But for some inexplicable reason the rest of the guys didn’t go for that.)

Here are some others that didn’t quite make the cut:

Evan // 30 Sep 2010We’re NOT playing at Coco66 tonight!!!

Hi everyone. Long time no blog.

Coco66 mistakenly posted on their website that we’re playing there tonight with Sport of Kings. A bunch of blogs and aggregators picked it up before they had a chance to fix it. Whoops!

We ARE, however, playing there October 17th, and you should come!
